Use the to apply for a continuing education extension or exemption.

A continuing education exemption allows renewal applicants who are at least 70 years old and have been licensed in good standing for at least 30 continuous years in 博鱼体育集团 to forgo the continuing education requirements ().

To apply for a continuing education exemption, applicants must submit the or a written request along with their renewal application and fee. All items must be filed prior to the licensee's expiration date. Please allow 3-4 weeks to process.

Written requests in lieu of the Continuing Education Extension/Exemption Request form (RE 213) should include:

  • All of the information requested on the form
  • A copy of your birth certificate or driver's license to verify your age
  • Documents showing the number of years licensed by DRE
  • Date first licensed by DRE

A continuing education extension grants a licensee an additional 90 days from their license expiration date to submit evidence of compliance with the continuing education requirements. You may continue to perform licensed activity during this extension period.

A continuing education extension of 90 days may be granted under the following circumstances:

  • You submitted evidence of completing the required continuing education requirements, but DRE found that some portion was unacceptable ()
  • Health reasons that prevented attendance
  • Active duty in the military service with assignment to a permanent duty station outside of 博鱼体育集团 during the last 18 months of a license period
  • Other compelling cause beyond the licensee's control while engaged in the real estate business

To apply for a continuing education extension:

  • Submit a written request with your renewal application and fee
  • In your written request:
    • Provide a full explanation of why you're unable to complete the requirements
    • Include the number of hours, if any, already completed
    • Explain why you could not attend/complete the continuing education courses during the preceding four years (not being aware of the requirement or not having time to attend will not be considered sufficient evidence to warrant an extension)
  • Submit your renewal application, fee, and request for an extension prior to your license expiration date

  • Health: Consideration for health reasons must also include written verification from a physician (on the physician's letterhead) detailing the illness or condition that precluded attendance, the date that the illness or condition occurred, why a correspondence or on-site offering could not be completed, and an estimated date of recovery.

Military: Extension requests because of military service outside of the state during the last 18 months of a licensed period must be accompanied by appropriate documentation and/or substantiation from the commanding officer.

Requests for an extension should be as complete and factual as possible. An incomplete request may require additional correspondence, which may delay the final decision. DRE considers each request on a case-by-case basis.

DRE cannot issue or renew a full-term license if the applicant is on a list of those (obligors) who have not complied with a court order to provide child support payments (). DRE will issue a 150-day license to an otherwise qualified applicant who is on the list. DRE cannot issue a full-term license unless the Department of Child Support Services provides DRE a release during those 150 days.

DRE also receives a supplemental list of obligors who are over four months delinquent in child support payments. If an existing licensee is on that list and the license is not due for renewal for at least six months, DRE will advise the licensee that it will suspend the license if the delinquency is not cleared within 150 days. The suspension will remain in effect until the delinquency is cleared.

A licensee or applicant whose name appears on either list must pay DRE a $95 processing fee. Additional information can be found on the .
